What Vaughan Doors Need
- Large custom entry doors. Woodbridge, Kleinburg and parts of Maple have a high concentration of oversized, double and ornate entry doors — often solid wood or wrought-iron-and-glass. They are heavy, and the recurring fault is the hinge side dropping until the leaves stop meeting and the multipoint lock will not engage.
- Multipoint locks. More common on Vaughan’s custom doors than elsewhere. When one stops throwing, it is usually alignment rather than a failed mechanism — see lock repair.
- Thornhill’s older housing. 1960s-80s stock with original patio doors and wood frames rotting at the jamb bottom — see door frame repair.
- Concord and Highway 7 industrial. Hollow metal doors and frames, panic hardware, high-cycle closers and loading-area doors.
- VMC and Highway 7 condos. Corridor and stairwell fire doors that no longer latch.

Custom and Multipoint-Lock Entry Doors
Vaughan has more large custom entry doors than almost anywhere else we work, and they fail in a specific way. A multipoint lock throws several bolts along the edge of the door at once, which means it only works if the door and frame stay in near-perfect alignment. Let the hinge side drop three or four millimetres and the top bolt no longer finds its keeper — so the handle will not lift, and it feels like the lock has broken.
Door stuck, broken or forced?

It usually has not. In most cases the mechanism is fine and the door has moved. The repair is to reinforce the hinge jamb so heavy doors are properly supported, reset the door height and reveal, and adjust the keepers to match. Replacing a multipoint mechanism on a custom door is expensive and, when alignment is the real cause, it will drift out again within a year.
Frequently Asked Questions
My multipoint lock will not lift into place. Is the lock broken?
Usually not. It is nearly always the door having dropped slightly so the bolts no longer meet their keepers — an alignment repair.
Are you actually based in Vaughan?
Yes. Our shop is at 470 N Rivermede Rd #14, Concord, so Vaughan is our closest service area.
Do you work on Concord and Highway 7 industrial units?
Yes — hollow metal doors and frames, panic hardware, closers and loading-area doors, with after-hours attendance.
Can a heavy custom door be repaired rather than replaced?
In most cases yes. Reinforcing the hinge jamb and resetting alignment keeps an expensive door in service.
